WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY
Patience
Everything comes to him who waits is a very relevant saying for
wildlife photography.
Equipment
The lenses that you need to purchase for decent wildlife
photography often costs more than the camera itself making it a
very expensive business indeed. It’s very easy to find lenses
that cost thousands of dollars but if you are primarily going
to be using it for your safari trip and maybe a smattering of
wildlife photography after that, you shouldn’t be spending more
than a few hundred dollars
For any one interested in wildlife photography, a telephoto
lens should become your standard lens. Look for a camera that
includes Center-weighted metering and together as you go into
the African bush you will capture lasting, quality images that
you will be proud to display to anyone.
Lenses should have a focal length of at least 70mm for adequate
wildlife photography and an image stabilizer is not essential
but a great help in eliminating blur.
If you have decided to go with a digital SLR then by all
accounts the best one to purchase for wildlife photography at
the moment is the Canon EOS 20D due to the blinding speed of
its shutter release (near instantaneous) and its continuous
shooting speed of 5 frames per second to a maximum burst depth
of twenty three frames.
The Best Wildlife Photography Areas
Africa
is an excellent destination for wildlife photography. It is
because Africa presents you with opportunities for wildlife
photography like no other place in the world. Most wildlife
photography in Africa happens from inside a vehicle.
Good wildlife photography usually involves capturing some
action in the golden light of dawn or dusk. In the early
mornings and late afternoons when the sun is low, the light is
very warm. A beach is a perfect place to take both sunrise and
sunset photographs for those interested in wildlife
photography, alternatively an island will pose nicely against
the scenic backdrop
Conclusion
You can have all the right equipment and the best wildlife
photography talent in the world but it won’t mean much if you
can’t find any wildlife to take pictures of. Africa is an
excellent destination for wildlife photography.
If you start applying the principles outlined here, you will
see big improvement in your wildlife photography results. Who
knows, maybe shortly you will also be among the prizes in that
famed wildlife photography competition.
